After starting AV Eagle, check your virus scanner and firewall in the following manner
1. Do a disk check What disk check does is writes the EICAR test file to your hard drive. This file is not an actual virus.
Once this is completed, the program will have written five different types of the EICAR test file to see what your AV scanner has done
WHAT HAPPENES IF MY VIRUS SCANNER DOES NOT TRIGGER ON THE DISK CHECK?
There are several tests that occur during the disk check. These tests check to see if the virus scanner engine detects files that are written to the disk. Additionally, the test ensures that the virus scanner is looking for potential malicious files with improperly named extensions. (see about). Your Virus Scanner SHOULD trigger FIVE times during this test. If the virus scanner does not trigger five times, check your AV Eagle directory to see if any of the files remain. If any of the files remain, then do a complete scan of your system. If the files are not caught at that point, then the virus scanner you are using is not correctly detecting the EICAR test file in its different forms.
2. Execute a file What execute file does, is writes the EICAR test file and attempts to run this file. If this file
is executed, you will see "EICAR TEST FILE" written on your screen. If this file is executed, your AV scanner did not detect this test.
WHAT HAPPENES IF MY VIRUS SCANNER DOES NOT TRIGGER ON THE DISK CHECK?
If your virus scanner does not trigger on the test, and you do not see the "EICAR TEST FILE." then check your AV Eagle directory to see if the file has been deleted. If the file is there or you did see the screen that showed "EICAR TEST FILE." then your virus scanner did not catch the test file at all. We cannot provide support for specific virus scanner software, so please contact the individual software companies for questions that you may have.
3. Do a firewall check. The firewall test and extensive firewall test should make your firewall software alert that there has been a
new program try to access the internet. If your firewall does not alert, check the log file to see if it logged the event.
AV Eagle is designed ONLY to test your virus scanner and firewall. It does nothing to protect your system from viruses. You need to have an up to date
Virus Scanner and firewall software installed and running on your computer. If you have any questions please contact software designers.
AV Eagle program is expanded from time to time, so check the current documentation for the specific version of AV Eagle that you downloaded. If you have downloaded a earlier version of AV Eagle, feel free to upgrade to the latest trial version. All registered users are allowed free upgrades during the product support cycle.
